1930's style Chinese vs. Legations
This game was played on Saturday, September 23, 2006 on a 6x4 foot table with 28mm miniatures. It was based very loosely on the "55 Days at Peking" situation, wherein a bunch of small groups of soldiers from various "western" powers in a legation area at the edge of a Chinese city are attacked by outraged Chinese. This hypothetical battle took place in the 1930's.
Figures were by Copplestone, Deadlands/Weird West, Pulp, Alpha, Tin Soldier, Light Horseman, Foundry, and maybe others. Buildings are Hovels, scratchbuilt, and a couple of others. Bridges from unknown and Armorcast.
The "western" legations were manned by about 50 figures with 2 HMGs, a BAR and an LMG, and a field gun. The Chinese had about 150 figures with a gun, two HMGs, 32 SMG-armed assault troops, a plane (one bomb drop allowed, similar to an artillery attack), and a light tank that could be used to block one of the four escape roads.
The legations had to survive, either by fighting or escaping, or a combination of the two. The scenario was designed for two defending players. Any unit could flee in any vehicle at any time. Part of the intended fun was to watch the two defenders either cooperate or try to run and leave the other guy behind. In the event, one player did not show, so it was a two-player game, Chinese against westerners, and some of the planned interaction was just not there. A fun game nevertheless between me and my son. House rules using my 12-card turn sequencing system and purpose-designed movement, shooting, and melee rules.
